Naches: The Scarlet Cord, Rahab’s Story

For the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. Joshua 2:11 (NIV)

IMG_3458Life is crazy, busy sometimes.  From work and school to sports practices, to meals, chores, and having family fun with friends – we move quickly in this season of life.

Life wasn’t meant to be a roller coaster, but sometimes it feels like one.

When life gets crazy and you can’t see ahead, sometimes all you can do is hold-on tight.

It matters who you are holding onto.

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God. Corrie Ten Boom

Stuck, Rahab knew there was more to life than what she could see.  She had heard of the one-true God who was for His people.

Shockwaves of surprise must have traveled through her body when she discovered the two Israelite spies, men blessed by the one-true God, at her front door. Rahab knew in her heart-of-hearts their God was holy, mighty, and He could move mountains.

She told the men she believed in their God, and when her heart turned towards Him, Rahab brought God naches.

Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! Luke 1:45

Rahab proclaimed and then she promised, and God provided.

The spies escaped out of the city by way of the tikvah (cord) from Rahab’s window. Rahab held onto the hope of the one-true God until they returned.

Rahab used a scarlet cord, or tikvah, for deliverance and by that same cord God strategically delivered her into the lineage of Jesus Christ.

By the scarlet blood of the lamb painted on the doorposts, God delivered the Israelites out of bondage and into freedom.
By the scarlet cord, God delivered Rahab out of her former-life of bondage and into the Israelites freedom.
By the scarlet blood of the lamb shed on the cross, God delivers each of us out of our own sin bondage and into freedom.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body… Hebrews 10:19-20 (NIV)

Are you holding onto something instead of the One who can bring you perfect peace?

Heavenly Father,
I praise You for who You are and what You have done for each of us.  I praise You for deliverance from the bondage of sin.  I praise you for the freedom we find in You.  I praise you for the blood of the lamb over the doorposts, the scarlet cord, and the blood of the lamb on the cross.  I praise You for drowning our sin in seas of crimson. You take our burdens and give life, and in life we are set free.  I offer You the highest praise.  May our hearts find rest in You through the “busyness” of life. May we let go the things we hold onto, and may we hold onto You with great hope and expectation.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2nd Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)

Keeping you close in prayer,

Mindy-2
