The Catch

…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

Just about every time my husband throws out his cast net, he catches an amazing amount of bait fish. Those poor fish swimming around our boat don’t stand a chance against the throw of the mighty fisherman! After the catch, he pulls the fish he has taken “captive” into the boat. He empties the cast net, and they flop everywhere. My son and daughter hurry to pick up the flopping fish – good ones go into the livewell and bad ones get thrown back into the deep ocean!

Do you ever feel as though your thoughts are running out of control? Even Eve, who walked with God, battled deceptive thoughts in her head from the master deceiver. Similar to fast-swimming bait fish, our thoughts may run powerfully wild until they succumb to “the catch!”

Thoughts (shaped by the wear and understanding of years past) remind us of where we were.
Thoughts (combined with an understanding of life today) indicate where we are.
Thoughts (towards our future) assure us of a blessed hope in knowing there is more to this world than what we can see.

If you have placed your faith in God, your blessed hope comes from understanding Christ died on the cross for all, therefore it was finished at the cross. Worry. Fear. Hurt. Shame. Regret. Anxiety. Crazy thoughts. Finished.

I am the way, and the truth, and the life. John 14:6

But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. John 16:13

Catch those lies that are running around your head and test them according to the truth found in God’s Word.  Remind yourself of God’s promises and rest in them.

So throw that cast net OUT and throw it well! Keep the good ones, and throw the rest back!

One who contends with thoughts coming from all directions,
may rest in the truth when those thoughts become captive to Christ.
