From a Season of Thanks to a Lifetime of Gratitude

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Psalm 118:1 (NASB)

I love getting together with family to celebrate Thanksgiving.

When we are together, it’s as if we are complete, again.

Thanksgiving, celebrated every 4th Thursday in November in the US, gives us a season to be thankful for the goodness in our lives and reminds us to reach out to others.  However, the art of showing gratitude did not originate with the Pilgrims and the Indians.  Glancing back, God’s loving fingerprints are visible from creation, through the 1st Thanksgiving, to today.  Is it possible for our “Attitude of Gratitude” to last throughout our lifetime instead of only for this season?

God’s work IS good.

At each stage of creation God looked over his work and said, “It was good” (Genesis 1:21).

The Creator looked back and declared His own work good.

The beautiful and perfect life God originally created contained wholeness, fullness, love, and peace.  It was good.

Then sin entered the world in a form of a serpent, causing pride, want and the feeling of “less than” to enter – brokenness from what was once whole – until The Healer arrived.

For in Adam all were broken (separated), but in Christ all are made whole again (complete).

God gives us an opportunity to come back to Him and be together as one family again.

He invites each of us into a priceless, eternal love – to which we owe eternal gratitude.

Once again, it was good.

As you are preparing your beautiful dinner spread today, take a moment with your family to:

  • Reflect upon His goodness in your life.
  • Recognize His great sacrifice.
  • Realize His love for you is eternal.
