Beautiful Legacy: Our Roots Run Deep
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness (Colossians 2:7 NLT).
My grandfather used to tell us “Skinny-Inny” stories. Each story had a fun beginning, middle, and end and an incredibly silly, mischievous main character! There was always a conflict Skinny-Inny was trying to solve. My grandfather would chide my brother, sister, and I with these words, “And do you want to know what happened next?” From setting off the fire works early to getting into the house paint, no matter how much trouble Skinny-Inny got into, things always came together for him in the end! All Skinny-Inny stories had a happy ending!
Everyone loves a good story.
Our Heavenly Father wrote the perfect story with a beginning, middle, and end – and believe it or not, each one of our stories fits into His story beautifully.
Our stories are not perfect, but they are real.
In the beginning of my marriage, my Jewish heritage felt like it collided with my intense love for God’s Son, and from that moment, I began to seek out the Jewish roots of my Christian faith.
Through the beautiful metaphor of the olive tree I discovered that our roots run deep.
Our stories are written so that we may find Him in our brokenness and return to Him to complete us by grafting both Jew and Gentile back into His forever faith-family tree. In Him we are a new creation!
When we understand the mystery of our faith as an intangible beautiful legacy, we are able to share it and pass it down to our children and those whom we love.
But, in our everyday, ordinary lives, how does this happen?
How do you create space for God to move in your life so that you can understand Him and see His fingerprints clearly upon each page of your story?
Many people have asked me these questions.
I took your questions seriously and I took time over the past few years to write a book – which just arrived to my front porch this evening!
It’s actually a book/Bible study that incorporates story, Biblical application, illustrations by ‘B’, and spiritual disciplines.
It’s a book you could read on your own, but I encourage you to read it with your friends.
Grab a copy, read a little, call a friend, meet for coffee or lunch, and talk about how your story fits into His story.
Our faith stories all have a beginning, contain a conflict or two (or three!), and then allow for a time for each one of us to commit ourselves to Him. The climax of our stories comes when we receive new life from Him. In Him there is a happy ending!
Beloved, you are beautiful and the legacy of your faith is alive in you.
It is my hope that this book entitled Beautiful Legacy: Our Roots Run Deep helps you discover your own faith story.
I can’t wait to share it with you!
I will preview it at the Encouragement Cafe event, and Beautiful Legacy will be available for purchase online next month.
