Blessed is She Who Believed… {Daring to Hope by Katie Davis Majors – A Book Review}

Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her! (Luke 1:45 NIV)

A  few years ago, I listened to a book by Jennie Allen entitled Anything which challenged me to step out of my comfort zone to find my “anything” for God.  In Jennie Allen’s book, she alluded to Katie Davis’ first book Kisses from Katie that powerfully moved Jennie’s heart right before she initiated the IF:Gathering movement – which has led thousands of women across the globe to ask, “IF God is real, then what? What does that look like in our homes, our families, our jobs, and even our lives?”

God moves women through the lives of women who are sold-out and committed to Christ.

And the most beautiful part about all of this is that women who are sold-out for Christ, don’t even realize He is moving through them – because the focus isn’t on them – it’s on Him.

I wonder routinely if He chose the right person to tend to all these precious hearts while He is still so clearly working on my own. ~Katie Davis Majors

I could start with how Katie never gave up on Mack’s leg, and how God worked in her heart as she cared for him, or how she tirelessly brings children and adults into her home to relentlessly take care of them as she strives to reunite families back together, or the beautiful story of how she met her husband and now raises how biological and adopted children together in her home in Uganda.

It all comes down to this:

Compassion… is not a bending toward the underprivileged from a privileged position; it is not a reaching out from on high to those who are less fortunate below; it is not a gesture of sympathy or pity for those who fail to make it in the upward pull. On the contrary, compassion means going directly to those people and places where suffering is most acute and building a home there. ~ Henri Nouwen

Katie’s heart explodes with compassion, but she is real, too. She writes about walking faithfully in the daily and the mundane.

She understands the Word and she doesn’t succumb to the world.

Sometimes you lead with the will and the heart follows. ~Katie Davis Majors

The moment Katie’s heart sees a need, she doesn’t stop to think about meeting it like so many of us do. Instead, Katie becomes God’s hands and feet as she walks forward faithfully, bravely, and blindly.

And in the end, serving the people right where God places you becomes the greatest blessing.

I am grateful for the few hours I found to sit down and read Daring to Hope. This post should have released weeks ago during Katie’s book launch, but our full home has led to full days these past few weeks. Katie’s spiritual wisdom shines through her words and leads the reader right to the Heart of the Father, who is Jesus.
