A Steadfast, Summertime Stride

Summertime!

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm ‭51:10‬ ‭NASB‬‬‬‬‬‬

I started running as a young mom. With a good pair of running shoes and a jogging stroller, I ran with my children on the bike path every morning to lose the baby weight. All I needed was the gift of time to hit my stride, and once I hit it, I could run comfortably for miles! Then I would wind down, stop at the park to let them play, and return home for a good stretch!

A Steadfast Stride

In the season of parenting, summertime is the steadfast stride in the marathon of “life” when everything comes together. The struggle of finishing the last school year strong has ended, the days are longer, and there is a rest that comes with sweet anticipation for the next school year. In the space of the stride renewal, reconnection, and rest are found.

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew‬ ‭11:29‬ ‭NASB‬‬‬‬‬‬

In the summertime, I discover extra time to spend in the Word.
In the summertime, I slow down as the world’s weight slowly melts away, renewing my steadfast spirit.

Time in the Word reveals God’s love does not waiver, even when I do not slow down enough to listen.
Time in the Word builds confidence and strength in the Spirit.

In the stride of summertime, I get away from the chaos, the noise, and the hurry and remember peace is found in the person of Jesus Christ. My weary soul finds rest in Him, and I mark the moments with my children, in whatever age and stage they are, as we reconnect and remember.

Endurance for Life

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 CSB

In the steadfast stride, I find rest in His yoke, and as I learn from Him, I realize that in Him is where endurance for this race we call “life” is found.

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the steadfast summertime stride. The long summer days give us the gift of time to renew, reconnect, and find rest in You. I pray for continued time to breathe deep, renew our spirits, and reconnect with family and friends so we may build Spiritual endurance for the marathon race we are in called “life.” In Your precious name, I pray, Amen
