Remember Who You Are: CHOSEN

You did not choose me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name he may give to you.  John 15:16 (NASB)

The ball swished through the air and sweet sounds of cheering children could be heard far away from the basketball court/soccer field.  When I looked towards the court, my heart warmed as smiles were found on the children’s faces.  Worries were gone, and fun abounded at the Tumani Home.

I didn’t see how it all began, but I knew Dale (my step-father) and Jon (my husband) were having a blast playing with my son and the children at the Tanzanian orphanage.

DSC_0303DSC_0304They were suppose to referee a game, but unaware of age difference or language barriers, they ended up playing “full-out” with the little kids against each other!

Afterwards I asked Dale how they got into the game.  He said, “I was picked!”  He told me, “They started picking teams and one of the little kids picked me! It felt so good to be picked! I got to play!” The excitement of being picked to play by a child made him feel wanted, important, and worthy!

God chose David.  On the surface, the choice made no sense.  But God doesn’t work on sense; He works on grace.  God called you, and God called me.  He knew what He was doing.  Beth Moore, A Heart Like His

Our Creator calls us to Himself.  As Dale was chosen to be on the team, God calls us to be in relationship with Him.  YOU are important!  YOU are wanted! In Him YOU are worthy!  From our perspective, our background or past may not appear to be good enough to be chosen by God.  However, He places a stirring within our hearts which we cannot deny.

Turn your focus from within to looking completely at Him.

Regardless of age, gender, or race, He extends grace, should we choose to accept it.

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23, 24 (NIV)

Dale did not intend to be chosen. He never imagined having the opportunity to play, but he impacted the lives of many children as a result of answering the call.

Choosing to follow God means we respond to the call He places on our hearts.  The call may be for different roles in the body of Christ, but together we function as One, so that we may impact many.

As members of His family, feelings of rejection and loneliness are replaced with feelings of belonging and feelings of joy.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

Regardless of where you are, or where you have been…
