Remember Who You Are: Known

Oh LORD, You have searched me and known me. Psalm 139:1

20140711-065423-24863270.jpgThe instant a mother holds and smells her newborn after carrying him or her for nine months…
The comfort of sitting next to your childhood friend on the porch swing, or seeing her face in FaceTime…
The glance from your son when he makes a great save or scores his first goal…
Your hand in your husbands as you walk down the beach at sunset…

It feels good to be known.

Knowing someone well takes time.

In Hebrew, the word “yada” means “to know.” If you “yada” someone it means you know the person really, really well. You have spent time in that relationship, and it has grown over the years. You know the good side of a person and you also know the not-so-good side. You have laughed and cried, and you have most likely hugged and fought together as well. This is how we grow. The more we “know” each other, the more we grow together.

God has known you since the beginning of time.  Since then He has searched you and has become familiar with every part.

For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust. Psalm 103:14 (NASB)

He placed you in your mother’s arms and He gave you friendships to symbolize His friendship with you. He already knows your good side, so you don’t have to prove yourself to Him.

I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness, because You have seen my affliction; You have known the troubles of my soul. Psalm 31:7 (NASB)

He also knows your bad side, and if you trust Him, he will walk through your frustrations and guilt with you.

He conquered them for you – on the cross.

He invites you to nail them there – once and for all.

When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Colossians 2:13, 14 (NASB)

God loves you, and He chose you for who you are.  He knows you better than a parent knows a child.

Regardless of where you have been, may your heart rest in Him today as you ~
