Found: Wisdom in the Word {The Best Yes, by Lysa Terkeurst}

Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 2nd Timothy 1:13 (ESV)

IMG_2292She was seeking the best wave.  Any wave would have taken my daughter to shore, but the best wave would let her ride faster and longer.  But there were so many to choose from!  How did she know which one was the best?  What if she chose the wrong one?  My husband stood out in the waves with her – giving her guidance, teaching her how to discern, and how to see.  She was hanging on his every direction…

Last week I reviewed several books which I read this summer.  One of those books was a book about finding wisdom in God’s Word in order to make good decisions based on the Word.

Lysa Terkeurst suggests in her book The Best Yes that in life, there may be more than one good choice, and that’s okay.

If my daughter chooses a wave that isn’t the best one, she will learn from it.  Each wave will give her the ability to practice.  Each time she practices she will have better discernment for the next time she gets to choose.

First you have to start by reading the Word, then you can see that God’s Word works in our life the same way.

God’s Word provides wisdom by giving us knowledge, insight, discernment, and ultimately – direction.

His Word leads us into making decisions which honor Him and grow our relationship in Him.

In The Best Yes, Terkeurst makes the following points to help lead women to Him:
Accept God’s words.
(They are a gift. Open them. Receive them. Use them.)
Store up His commands within us.
(Memorize, memorize, memorize – let God’s Word get into us.)
Turn our ears to wisdom.
(Seek wise teaching, wise advice, and keep company with wise people.)
Call out for insight.
(Align God’s Word with our life trade and seek guidance.)
Cry aloud for understanding.
(How will our choices affect others?  Ask God.  He will show you.)
Look for wisdom as passionately as we would look for a hidden treasure.
(Seek the wisdom of God earnestly and honestly.)

Then you will discern the fear of the LORD And discover the knowledge of God.
For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:5-6 (NASB)

Sometimes there may be more than one good choice, and that’s okay.

It’s our responsibility to seek God, honor God in each decision He guides us to make, and pray for His direction along the way.

The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand. Psalm 37:23-24 (NASB)
