Walk This Way

…so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10 (NASB)

Let’s Go for a Walk

In my house, when I say the word “walk” aloud in front of my dogs, they go crazy! They run to the front door, wait patiently for me to get their leashes, and they are ready to go! My dogs live for walks! A walk means fresh air and lots of smells. For Champ, a walk is an opportunity to mark his territory all around the neighborhood. And for Jamaica, a walk means a chance to see friends!

Our Walk is the Way We Live

While my dogs live for walks, as humans, our walk is the way we live and how we walk matters.

Before we walk, we listen. When we quiet our hearts to listen, we are able to hear the call on our lives. We answer the call by choosing to follow God. Our lives pivot from walking the direction we were going to walking with God. Faith is active, not passive. We choose to take action when we choose to walk with God.

When we choose to walk with God, we choose to place the object of the desire of our soul on Him because we understand He alone is worthy. Our Heavenly Father draws us towards Him and we begin to understand joy, peace, and holiness are found in Him.

Choose Your Walk Wisely

  1. Walk with Jesus.
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
    John 10:27 (NASB)
Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. Colossians 2:6 (NASB)
And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. Matthew 10:38 (NASB)

  2. Walk as a child of God.
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name. John 1:12 (NASB)
Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:7 (NASB)

  3. Walk with faith.
…for we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NASB)
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 (NASB)
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)

  4. Walk in the Spirit.
…for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. Ephesians 2:18 (NASB)
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 (NASB)

  5. Walk in truth.
I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth. 3 John 1:4 (NASB)

  6. Walk together.
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Colossians 3:14 (NASB)
I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. John 17:23 (NASB)

  7. Walk with purpose.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 (NASB)

  8. Walk with hope.
…while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NASB)

Your Walk Matters

Why does the way we walk matter? Our walk matters for our own peace and joy, and it matters because those whom you love and those who live within your circle of influence are watching.

Then Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters. Genesis 5:22 (NASB)

Enoch walked with God, and the legacy of his faith was passed down from generation to generation to the heart of Noah.

These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:9 (NASB)

By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. Hebrews 11:7 (NASB)

Noah watched his great-grandfather walk with God, and Noah did the exact same thing. For this reason many people say, “Faith is caught, not taught.”

Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called. Ephesians 4:1 (NASB)

Sometimes the walk is hard. Obstacles often appear on our paths and the weather can be challenging at times. But even when your pace may change, God’s companionship in the walk remains the same. It’s at that moment when you lean in and look up and your Heavenly Father reaches out, grabs your hand, and says, “Walk this way.”

You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. Psalm 16:11 (NASB)

Heavenly Father, We praise you today for guiding us along this path called life. We praise You for leading us even when we cannot see. Through the good times and the hard times, may I continue to keep my eyes on You, for You alone are worthy to follow. In the Precious Name of Jesus I Pray, Amen
