Moments to Remember: FCA Girls Camp

Moments to Remember

FCA Camps allow for student-athletes to get away for a week to re-focus on what is essential and to grow in their game, which creates moments to remember. This past week was no exception. Over the years I have served with FCA (15 years volunteer plus two years on staff), I have sent girls to BlackMountain, NC for FCA Girls Multi-Sport Camp. The past two camp seasons I had the priviledge of driving a van full of girls to camp! This year we had 12 girls from the SouthCoastal Area attend – ten girls were campers and two were Assistant Huddle Leaders.

In addition, one Huddle Leader was my former FCA Leader in Florida in sixth and seventh grade. She currently plays softball in college and we have kept in touch. This year she joined my virtual FCA College Athlete Huddle, and then she decided to come to camp to pour into the younger athletes as a Huddle Leader!

Moments to Remember

  1. Oneness – It felt good to be together again. We were not meant to “do life” alone. We need our sisters to “spur” us on, hold us accountable, love us, pray with us, and WORSHIP with us. Worship with Kaimy Masse and team brought us into His holy presence and the body-of-Christ grew this week as Jesus welcomed over seventy new sisters into the fold. We certainly celebrated with the angels in Heaven!
  2. Pursue – Just as God pursues us, we need to pursue Him daily. Watching girls put their phones down and pick up the Word of God is PRICELESS. God pursues every heart, even if every heart runs away, turns away, and dodges His love. He runs faster and harder. He pursued girls this week and cycles and chains were broken.
  3. Response – Women respond to women’s stories of how God moved through them AND they respond to men speaking to an audience of women. Chaplain Dana Jenkins delivered powerful messages, Gabe Williams delivered THE FOUR, and Chris Gratton shared these priceless words on Friday morning at Open Mic, “God told me, I have woven women together to be compassionate, gentle, and caring. That’s you. God created you to be a helpmate. You have an important role – to love. And, DON’T SETTLE. If you don’t know God’s love letter to you, you won’t know what a Godly man is. The Word is not for rules, it’s for peace and joy.”
  4. Every – God moves every heart at camp, regardless of the age. I want to be like Kim Boyce, who still returned after retirement from FCA, to pray, support the staff, and disciple young girls. God moved every heart closer to His this week. He knew exactly what each one of us needed, and He met us in that precious space.
  5. Smile – “….for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.” Luke 6:45 (NASB) Out of the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks, or smiles. Smiles indicate freedom in Christ. I captured a lot of smiles in pictures this week, which were the result of filled hearts. Smiles for days. Amen.

Thank YOU

God moved into the hearts of over seventy girls this week and then He wove their hearts together on ONE in His perfect way. In addition, He wove the hearts of the FCA Staff, Volunteers, and Huddle Leaders together as well. There is only one word to describe what I humbly witnessed: gratitude.

FCA Camps would not be possible without partners in the ministry.
If you partner with me in ministry, thank you.
If you sent an athlete to camp, thank you.
If you prayed for an athlete at camp, thank you.

In such a tender way, these smiles are a result of your generous gifts and partnership with the Fellowship of Chrisitan Athletes. Thank you.

I hope these smiles have blessed your heart, as they have blessed mine.
There is a beautiful story behind every one of them.

Many Blessings,

Basking in His Light
